Caesars Atlantic City just announced that its Bad Beat Jackpot of $553,958 hit in their poker room as preparations are made to welcome the World Series of Poker Circuit Event on March 3rd. The unbelievable Bad Beat Jackpot smashes the previous record of $361,244.

On a cold afternoon in January at 4:30pm, Steve Gedney held the best losing hand of his entire life in the hottest poker room in Atlantic City. With an incredibly strong hand of four 3's, Gedney lost out on the river card to Chris Dobrzanski's hand of four aces and triggered the mammoth jackpot turning the famed poker room into the center of the poker universe for the time being. It was Steve's good fortune to lose the hand and haul in $276,979 instead of the roughly $400 pot. The winner of the hand didn't fare too poorly taking in $138,489 for his efforts. The remaining 7 players at the table weren't left out either as each took home $19,784 just for sitting at the table where history was made.
The Bad Beat Progressive Jackpot at Caesars Atlantic City is a prize that is paid when the normally sufficient strong hand of 4-of-a-kind is shown down and loses to an even stronger hand held by another player. When a jackpot is won, it is split among all players sitting at the table at the time of the bad beat with the losing hand getting the largest share. The breakdown sees 50% go to the losing player, 25% goes to the winning player, and the remaining seven players that the table see the last 25% equally divided amongst them.
